Many home owners find it very difficult to get a home owner insurance
agency to offer them a home owner insurance policy. This can pose quite
a problem, especially if you borrowed the money to purchase your home
and your lender requires you to have a home owner insurance policy.
There are actually several factors that cause this difficulty, and all
of them boil down to whether or not you and/or your home is considered
to be “high risk.” The two most difficult factors to overcome are both
based on the location of your home.
If you live in an area that is considered “high crime,” you might
struggle when searching for a home owner insurance agency that will
offer you a home owner insurance policy. If this is true, consider
contacting some of your very nearby neighbors and inquiring about the
home owner insurance agency they use – after all, you live in the same
“high crime” area, right? If that does not work, give your state
insurance department a call and find out what you can do in order to get
adequate home owner insurance without having to move!
If you live in an area that is often at risk for suffering major damages
from severe weather (think hurricanes, tornadoes, major snow storms,
meteorite showers, etc.), you may also have trouble getting a home owner
insurance agency to work with you. Again, your best bet is to talk to
neighbors and contact your state insurance department.
There is also an additional route you can take regarding either one of
these situations, and that is to improve the safety of your home.
Whether it means adding extra security features to keep burglars out, or
stronger window panes to keep tree limbs from getting in, making your
home safer appeals to home owner insurance agencies that otherwise are
not jumping at the chance to offer you a home owner insurance policy.
