Health insurance is something we all need, whether we’re teenagers,
middle-agers, or old folks. Regardless of our current health conditions,
we never know when a health emergency is going to occur. Despite the
vitamins we take, the cigarettes we don’t smoke, and the exercise we get
everyday, health is an unpredictable thing.
However, despite its importance, health insurance isn’t that easy to get
– especially if you don’t work a “traditional,” full-time job. Most
people obtain their health insurance benefits from their employers –
it’s usually one of the perks of the job. But what are those of us who
are self-employed supposed to do? If we’re our own employers, can we
offer health insurance benefits to ourselves? And at a low cost?
Well, yes and no. We can get health insurance benefits ourselves by
purchasing individual health insurance plans; however, the odds are we
aren’t going to get them at a low cost – at least, not as low as a
health insurance plan from a traditional employer would be. If you’re
looking for low cost health insurance for self-employed people, you
might want to start first by looking at organizations and even regular
insurance companies that offer health insurance packages to those who
are self-employed.
If you’re affiliated with some sort of organization, you can probably
get low cost health insurance through them. And, depending on your field
of self-employment, you may be able to search for organizations out
there that offer low cost health insurance specifically for your field.
As always, when searching for low cost health insurance, keep your
budget in mind. You’re looking for low cost because you either can’t, or
won’t, pay a lot of money for health insurance benefits. Don’t be sucked
in by pushy insurance agents who try to tell you that you won’t find
anything cheaper. Depending on the exact coverage you want, it’s very
possible to find something more within your price range.
