20 ways to save money on car insurance for your teenager

1. Put them in a drivers education course
Insurance companies offer discounts to teenagers who enroll in and
successfully pass defensive drivers or driver education courses.
Call your insurance company ahead of time to make sure the course
you enroll your teenager in qualifies for the discount.

2. Help your child succeed at school
If your child is able to maintain a "B" average (3.0 or higher) most
likely they will qualify for the good student discount that many
insurance companies offer.

3. Add your teenager to your auto insurance policy
When adding your teenager to your insurance policy you can guarantee
that your premium will increase but the cost will be a lot less than
purchasing an individual policy for that child.

4. Make sure the car your teen is driving is safe

5. Discuss with your teen the importance of driving safely
Help your child to understand how important it is to follow the rules
of the road. Rules have been established over time for our safety and
protection. Teach them that there are severe consequences for breaking
the law, such as fines, jail, and injury to others.

6. Set driving restrictions (or rules) for your teenager
When your child first gets their license it is important to establish
rules. Do not let your child drive after dark. Do not let your child
drive beyond the city limits and do not let your child drive alone
with his/her friends.

7. Raise your deductible to keep your premium low
Raising you deductible will almost always lower your premiuim.
You may be taking a chance on your child, but if you feel confident
that your child will drive cautiously at all times it really is the best
option for keeping your monthly payment down.

8. Have your teen help to pay a portion of the insurance cost

9. When buying your teen a new car, make sure the car is in a less expensive class.
Most insurance companies will charge more for sports cars or cars
that have a lot of horsepower. Make sure the type of car your teen
is driving is safe and less expensive to insure.

10. If adding another car to your policy, ask about a discount

11. Have your teen join community organizations.
Some insurance companies will give discounts to young adults who
are involved in organizations such as Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts or other
local service groups.
